Macquarie University Domestic Scholarship Round 2027

Macquarie University in Australia is accepting applications for the Domestic Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship and the Macquarie Research Excellence Scholarship (MQRES) for Session 1, 2027.

The scholarships support high-achieving domestic graduate research students undertaking a Master of Research (MRes) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at Macquarie University.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Top-ranked PhD applicants may receive a tuition fee offset and a stipend of AUD $40,900 per year for three years.

  • Top-ranked MRes applicants undertaking the MRes-to-PhD pathway may receive a tuition fee offset and AUD $40,900 per year for four years.

  • MRes-only scholarships include a tuition fee offset and AUD $40,900 stipend for one year.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of Australia or New Zealand, or an Australian permanent resident.

  • Intend to live in Sydney, Australia during their candidature.

  • Plan to undertake a full-time Master of Research or PhD in Session 1, 2027.

  • Meet the relevant admission requirements for the MRes or PhD.

  • Meet Macquarie University's English language requirements.

  • Satisfy all admission requirements.

  • Have confirmation of supervision from an eligible Macquarie University researcher where required.

Who Is Not Eligible?

The award is not available to applicants who, among other conditions:

  • Are already enrolled in a progressing Macquarie research cohort.

  • Started a Macquarie higher-degree research program before 1 July 2026.

  • Are receiving another equivalent major/full scholarship or salary for the proposed program.

  • Have already completed a research degree at the same or higher level in the same program.

  • Submit false or misleading information.

  • Submit an incomplete application.

Selection Process

Macquarie University assesses applicants based on factors including academic merit, relevant research output and experience or potential, as well as alignment with the University's strategic research framework. The selection process can also consider the research environment, research-project alignment, supervisory team quality and the standing of the research area.
