Job Purpose

The Internal Auditor will use systematic and disciplined audit approaches to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of RwandAir's risk management, internal controls, and governance processes.

The role involves conducting financial, operational, systems, and process audits, including reviews of outsourced operations, and reporting on the adequacy of internal controls to support the efficient and effective use of organizational resources.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform financial, operational, and compliance audits in accordance with the internal audit program.
  • Assist senior auditors in carrying out various audit reviews and assignments.
  • Prepare relevant information, including draft findings and recommendations, under the supervision of a Senior Internal Auditor.
  • Review internal controls designed to safeguard RwandAir's financial and physical assets and recommend improvements where weaknesses are identified.
  • Evaluate significant new services, processes, operations, and controls.
  • Coordinate audit assignments with the Senior Auditor.
  • Maintain clear audit work papers and audit trails using the appropriate tools.
  • Investigate irregularities identified by or reported to the Internal Audit function.
  • Review RwandAir's practices and records for compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Develop recommendations to improve internal controls, operational efficiency, and record keeping.
  • Follow up on the implementation of external audit recommendations.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor or management.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Management.
  • One or more professional certifications such as CPA, CIA, or ACCA, or be currently pursuing one of these qualifications.
  • Knowledge of accounting packages such as Sun, Microsoft Dynamics NAV, SAGE, Pastel, QuickBooks, or similar systems.
  • 3–5 years of experience as an Auditor in robust institutions.
  • Thorough understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and applicable regional statutory requirements.
  • Proven ability to analyze risks and develop recommendations requiring appropriate remedial action.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, accounting packages, internet applications, and workflow processes.
  • High standards of integrity and the ability to establish productive relationships while treating people fairly and respectfully.
  • Strong communication, presentation, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Good understanding of risk management and audit processes.
  • Ability to document and understand business processes accurately and completely.
  • Ability to apply international audit standards in practical situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
