Job Description

The Finance Director is responsible for leading the financial strategy, management, and governance of the organization. This role ensures financial sustainability, compliance with international and local regulations, and supports the CEO and Board in achieving long-term growth. The Finance Director oversees financial planning, reporting, risk management, and operational efficiency across subsidiaries, positioning finance as a strategic partner in the company’s success.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with corporate goals.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to the CEO and Board.
  • Lead capital allocation decisions for new projects, expansions, and acquisitions by prioritizing strategic sectors and strategic countries as defined by the Group.
  • Drive long-term financial sustainability and shareholder value creation.

Financial Planning & Reporting

  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with IFRS/GAAP and local standards across all countries of operation.
  • Monitor performance against budgets and provide variance analysis at both subsidiary and Group Hold-co level.
  • Present financial results and strategic recommendations to stakeholders.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with tax, audit, and regulatory requirements across all jurisdictions including host-country statutory obligations and Afreximbank governance standards.
  • Manage internal controls and risk management frameworks.
  • Oversee external/internal audits and ensure that any audit findings are addressed through timely corrective actions within regulatory or statutory timeframes.
  • Safeguard company assets and maintain strong governance standards.

Operational Efficiency

  • Optimize working capital, cash flow, and cost structures.
  • Implement financial systems and digital tools (ERP, LIMS integration) ensuring data integrity, auditability and regulatory traceability.
  • Drive efficiency through shared services and centralized procurement.
  • Monitor KPIs such as budget variance, cost per transaction, and ROI.
  • Adopt and implement appropriate financial control measures.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with banks, investors, regulators, and key clients.
  • Support subsidiaries’ CFOs in aligning with group finance policies.
  • Provide transparent communication to stakeholders on financial performance and risks to support AQAC as a credible continental institution.
  • Support projects with financial evaluation and scenario planning.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor the finance team across subsidiaries.
  • Ensure succession planning for key finance roles.
  • Promote continuous training and professional development.
  • Foster a culture of integrity, accountability, and innovation.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as Finance Director, CFO, or senior finance executive in a multinational or holding company.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS/GAAP, tax regulations, and compliance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success in financial planning, risk management, and capital allocation.
  • Experience in laboratory, TIC (Testing, Inspection, Certification), healthcare, or industrial services preferred.
  • Advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration.
  • Professional certifications (CPA, ACCA, CA) are highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 12 years in a senior executive leadership role within the accounting and finance industry.
