The Open Doors Scholarship 2027 offers talented international students an opportunity to study at leading universities in Russia through a competitive, fully funded scholarship program.
The competition is open to students and researchers from around the world and covers a wide range of academic fields, including engineering, medicine, economics, linguistics, computer science, and other disciplines.
The Open Doors competition has been organized annually since 2017 by the Association of Global Universities, with support from Russia’s Ministry of Science and Higher Education and Rossotrudnichestvo.
What Does the Open Doors Scholarship Cover?
Winners of the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral tracks can receive:
Full tuition coverage for the selected degree program.
The opportunity to study in English or Russian.
One year of free Russian-language training for students whose chosen program is taught in Russian.
The opportunity to choose a university and degree program through a streamlined application process.
Academic and student support throughout their studies.
For Postdoctoral winners, the scholarship provides an opportunity to join a research project at a Russian university, work with experienced researchers, and use modern research facilities.
Who Can Apply?
The scholarship is open to foreign citizens and stateless persons, including eligible compatriots living abroad.
Bachelor’s Track
Applicants should generally:
Be between 16 and 23 years old at registration.
Not already hold a Bachelor’s, Specialist’s, or Master’s degree.
Have completed or be completing the education required for admission to higher education in their country.
Master’s Track
Applicants should generally:
Be between 20 and 33 years old at registration.
Not already hold a Specialist’s or Master’s degree.
Have completed or be completing at least a Bachelor’s degree.
Doctoral Track
Applicants should generally:
Be between 22 and 35 years old at registration.
Not already hold a doctoral degree.
Have completed or be completing at least a Specialist’s or Master’s degree.
Postdoctoral Track
Applicants should generally:
Be between 24 and 39 years old at registration.
Hold a doctoral degree, such as a PhD or equivalent qualification.
The official languages of the competition are English and Russian.
Application Timeline
The application process for the Open Doors Scholarship 2027 follows several stages:
August 20 – November 1, 2026: Registration and portfolio submission.
November 2 – 12, 2026: First-stage portfolio evaluation.
November 13, 2026: First-stage results announced.
November 13 – 16, 2026: Registration for the second stage.
November 17 – December 7, 2026: Second-stage competition tasks.
December 11, 2026: Second-stage results announced.
December 11 – 13, 2026: Appeal period.
December 21, 2026: Bachelor’s and Master’s winners and runners-up announced.
December 22, 2026 – February 26, 2027: Third stage for Doctoral and Postdoctoral participants.
February 26, 2027: Doctoral and Postdoctoral winners announced.
