Job Purpose

The NDT Level 2 Engineer will perform and certify Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspections in support of RwandAir's line maintenance, base maintenance, outstation operations, workshops, and third-party maintenance activities.

The role is responsible for supporting aircraft and component structural integrity through accurate inspection, interpretation, and reporting in accordance with approved manuals, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.

The position reports to the NDT Level 3 Engineer and provides timely NDT support across RwandAir's operations to ensure regulatory, technical, and safety compliance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled NDT inspections of aircraft and aircraft components in accordance with approved standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Exercise the relevant license/approval and issue Certificates of Release to Service for completed work where applicable.
  • Perform NDT inspections using detection systems approved by the OEM and documented in approved technical data.
  • Ensure inspected components are correctly handled, labelled, blanked, and routed with the relevant documentation.
  • Plan and coordinate allocated NDT inspection activities.
  • Prepare inspection reports and record all NDT inspections on the appropriate checklists.
  • Ensure availability and serviceability of NDT equipment, tools, and technical data.
  • Ensure NDT shop tools, equipment, and accessories are properly calibrated and report any discrepancies or failures.
  • Conduct periodic quality checks of Dye Penetrant and Magnetic Particle Inspection equipment, materials, and processes.
  • Conduct periodic quality checks of Ultrasonic Inspection transducers and equipment.
  • Review inspection procedures to ensure they remain current and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Report safety hazards and occurrences.
  • Respond to internal and external audits and implement corrective actions for identified nonconformities.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly working environment.
  • Maintain valid NDT qualifications and complete mandatory annual eyesight tests.
  • Ensure timely renewal of relevant authorizations before expiry.

  • Establish team objectives and priorities aligned with business objectives.
  • Supervise Level 1 specialists and trainees and direct daily activities.
  • Train and develop employees to support succession planning.
  • Contribute to national talent development by coaching and developing national trainees.

Personal Development

  • Take responsibility for continuous professional development and growth of technical expertise.
  • Keep up to date with market trends and technical developments.
  • Assist in responding to emergencies or major operational disruptions affecting RwandAir or its subsidiaries.
  • Train other staff in various duties as required by the business.

The successful candidate will:

  • Contribute to RwandAir's environmental objectives and targets.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the Environmental Management System.
  • Apply environmental knowledge and principles to business processes and decision-making to improve efficiency and reduce operational and environmental risks.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Applicants should have:

  • At least 5 years of experience in aviation/NDT or workshop maintenance.
  • An engineering degree or diploma in one of the following disciplines:
    • Aeronautical Engineering
    • Avionics
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Electronics
  • Experience in aircraft/component maintenance or NDT inspection.
  • Minimum Level 2 NDT Methods Qualification and a proven track record in line, base, or workshop maintenance environments.
  • At least one of the following:
    1. Current or previous NDT approval in one method.
    2. NDT EN4179 or PCN (Aerospace) qualification in one or more inspection methods such as PT, MT, UT, ET, RT, or TT.
    3. Successful completion of the qualification examination with the required minimum experience/hours.
