Job Details

Job Title: Senior, HR Business Partnering

Job Purpose

The Senior HR Business Partner is a senior practitioner within the HR Business Partnering function, responsible for delivering high-impact and strategic HR support to an assigned portfolio of business divisions across RwandAir.

The position acts as a senior HR advisor, translating the people strategy, HR Operating Model and transformation agenda into day-to-day business outcomes.

The successful candidate will work directly with Senior Leaders and Heads of Department to drive workforce planning, organisational effectiveness, talent management, performance culture and people-related governance.

The Senior HRBP will also coach and support HR Business Partners within the team, helping to strengthen the quality and consistency of HR business partnering across the organisation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

A. Operational Responsibilities

  • Lead the annual and rolling workforce planning cycle for the assigned portfolio in collaboration with Finance, Business Units and HR Centres of Excellence.

  • Anticipate future skills and capability needs based on route expansion, fleet development and operational model evolution.

  • Advise on organisational structure changes, job evaluation, manpower requests, span-and-layer reviews and succession planning.

  • Drive talent management programmes, including identification of high-potential employees, development plans and succession pipelines.

  • Champion the People Performance Management system, including calibration, coaching, performance review compliance and capability building for line leaders.

  • Support culture-building initiatives by embedding RwandAir’s values, Ways of Working, service culture and organisational behaviours.

  • Partner with Learning & Talent Development to address capability gaps and develop a skills-based workforce.

  • Handle and resolve complex employee relations, grievance and disciplinary cases while ensuring fairness, consistency and compliance with Rwandan labour laws.

  • Advise business leaders on people-related risks and mitigation strategies.

  • Support HR policy development, compliance monitoring and governance activities.

  • Provide hands-on change support for transformation initiatives and ensure adoption of new processes, systems, structures and ways of working.

  • Coach line leaders on change leadership, organisational readiness and people communication.

  • Champion HR digitisation, workforce analytics, dashboards and self-service adoption.

  • Use workforce data and analytics to provide insights on headcount, performance, retention and people risks.

  • Prepare timely and accurate people reports for divisional leaders and the Senior Manager, HRBP.

B. Functional Coaching and Uplift

  • Act as a senior peer and coach to HR Business Partners by sharing best practices, reviewing casework and strengthening business partnering standards.

  • Deputise for the Senior Manager, HRBP on assigned matters and represent the HR function in cross-departmental forums.

  • Contribute to building HRBP capability in workforce planning, organisational design, talent management and analytics.

  • Contribute to the development of Rwandan national talent by coaching Rwandan national developees and preparing them for career growth.

  • Perform other duties related to the position as directed by the Senior Manager, HRBP.

C. Strategic Responsibilities

  • Act as the senior HR advisor to assigned Senior Leaders and Heads of Department.

  • Diagnose workforce challenges and translate business priorities into effective people plans.

  • Cascade and operationalise the HR Transformation Roadmap within the assigned portfolio.

  • Provide a commercially aware and outside-in perspective based on RwandAir’s route expansion, fleet development and 4-star ambition.

  • Lead assigned workstreams within HR Transformation initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Psychology or a related field.

  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive HR experience.

  • At least 3 years of experience in a senior HR Business Partner or equivalent business partnering role.

Added Advantage

  • Postgraduate qualification.

  • MBA.

  • Globally recognised HR certification such as CIPD, SHRM-SCP or SPHR.

Essential Requirements

  • Hands-on HR partnering experience in a transformation environment or fast-moving operational sector such as aviation, hospitality, FMCG, logistics or telecommunications.

  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders.

  • Experience managing complex employee relations cases from start to finish.

  • Working knowledge of HR operating models, workforce planning, organisational design and change management.

  • Ability to operate effectively within a developing HR function, manage ambiguity, prioritise tasks and deliver results.
