Specialist, Data Analyst

Background Information Job Title: Specialist, Data Analyst Job Grade: JG G-Specialist Division: IT & Digital Innovation  Reports to: Head, IT Operations  Contract terms: Open ended contract Purpose of the Job The Senior Data Analyst is responsible for managing and optimizing the Bank's hybrid (on-premises and cloud) database and data platform estate, transforming data into actionable insights that drive business objectives. The role covers database design, performance tuning, ETL processes, data modelling, reporting, and analytics in support of core banking and enterprise applications running on both monolithic and microservices architectures. The Senior Data Analyst works closely with the Application Management, Service Management, and IT Infrastructure units to ensure the availability, security, and performance of data platforms, and partners with business stakeholders to define data requirements and deliver reliable, actionable reporting and analytics. Main Responsibilities of the Job

Duties and responsibilities shall include but not limited to:A. Data Analysis & Insights

  • Conduct data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform business decisions.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to define data requirements and design data solutions.
  • Design and deliver reliable reports, dashboards, and analytics outputs using data visualization tools.
  • Communicate insights and findings clearly to technical and business stakeholders.

B. Database & Data Platform Management (Hybrid: On-Premises & Cloud)

  • Design, develop, and maintain database structures, data elements, and data models across on-premises and cloud data platforms.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance, including testing, error correction, and troubleshooting of resource-related and performance challenges.
  • Ensure timely and accurate database backups, replication, and high availability for critical systems in a hybrid environment.
  • Implement security measures to protect and secure data across the hybrid database and data platform estate.

C. ETL, Integration & Data-Layer Support

  • Perform data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • Support the database and data layers of core banking and enterprise applications — spanning monolithic and microservices architectures — including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting, in coordination with the Application Management unit.
  • Support the data integration of the Bank's systems, including Electronic Financial Management Information Systems, with external partners.
  • Collaborate with the Application Management and Service Management units to resolve database- and data-related incidents within agreed SLAs.

D. Automation, Scripting & Technical Support

  • Use scripting languages (Bash, Python) and programming skills to automate data manipulation, analysis, and visualization tasks.
  • Provide timely technical support to system users for database- and data-related issues.
  • Participate in process improvement and automation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency across the hybrid data platform.

E. Vendor & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with vendors to review contracts and manage vendor support for database and data platform tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams — Infrastructure, Application Management, and Service Management — on IT projects to deliver efficient solutions.
  • Mentor and support junior data analysts, and stay up to date with emerging trends in data analysis and database/data platform management.
Performance Indicators
  • Accuracy, timeliness, and reliability of data analysis and reporting outputs.
  • Database and data platform availability and performance across on-premises and cloud environments.
  • SLA adherence for database-related incidents and requests.
  • Successful and accurate execution of ETL processes and data integrity checks.
  • Timeliness and success rate of database backups, DR tests, and restores.
  • Stakeholder satisfaction and quality of technical support provided.
Working relationships Internal: Database and Data Platform, Application Management, Service Management, IT Infrastructure, Business Units, Internal Audit.External: Database/data platform vendors, integration partners, core banking application vendors. Professional, academic qualifications and experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in data analysis and database management, preferably supporting hybrid (on-premises/cloud) environments.
  • Proficiency in SQL and database management systems (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server).
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of data privacy and security best practices.
  • Relevant certifications in data analysis or database management are an added advantage.
