The University of Rwanda/College of Science and Technology (UR-CST) would like to recruit competent and qualified academic staff and Academic & Research Support staff to occupy vacant positions in the School of Engineering and Training Workshop and the School of Science.

1. School of Engineering and Training Workshop

The School of Engineering brings together three departments:

  1. Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering

  2. Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering

  3. Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

The School is also linked to the following Centres of Excellence:

  • African Centre of Excellence in Energy for Sustainable Development (ACE-ESD)

  • Centre of Excellence in Transport Planning and Logistics

  • Centre of Excellence in Biomedical Engineering

The School of Engineering also operates a practical Training Workshop organized into five sections:

Assistant Lecturer – Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Requirements

  • A Master of Science (MSc) degree in Control Systems, Automation Systems, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Control, Mechatronics, or another closely related programme from a recognized higher learning institution.

  • Strong academic and technical background in control systems, industrial automation, instrumentation, electrical systems, or related areas.

  • Knowledge of relevant engineering software, simulation tools, programming environments, and laboratory equipment.

  • Good communication, teaching, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Evidence of research activities, publications, conference participation, or relevant professional experience is an added advantage.

Expected Competencies

  • Strong expertise in control and automation systems.

  • Ability to design and implement practical engineering systems.

  • Knowledge of PLCs, SCADA, instrumentation, industrial automation, and control systems where applicable.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in teaching undergraduate and, where applicable, postgraduate courses within the area of specialization.

  • Prepare course materials, lecture notes, practical manuals, tutorials, presentations, and other teaching resources.

  • Deliver lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions, demonstrations, and practical training as assigned.

  • Develop and administer continuous assessment activities, examinations, practical assessments, and other forms of student evaluation.

  • Mark and moderate assignments, examinations, laboratory reports, projects, and other assessments in accordance with University procedures.

  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to students.

  • Supervise undergraduate student projects, dissertations, internships, and practical training as assigned.

  • Participate in curriculum development, review, and improvement activities.

Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer – Mechanical and Energy Engineering

Requirements

  • A PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Automation, or a closely related field.

  • Proof of publication in UR-recognized peer-reviewed journals.

  • For Lecturer: at least 2 publication points.

  • For Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor: at least 10 publication points, three of which must have been earned since the last promotion.

  • For Associate Professor: a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience at university level as an Associate Professor or equivalent, proven supervision of doctoral students to completion, and evidence of significant contribution to research, community engagement, and academic leadership.

  • For Senior Lecturer: a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience as a Senior Lecturer from a recognized institution of higher learning and proven supervision of at least two Master's students to completion.

  • For Lecturer: teaching experience is not required but is an added advantage. A strong academic record and relevant industry or postdoctoral research experience are desirable.

Duties include:

  • Deliver teaching and learning activities for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Mechanical and Energy Engineering.

  • Supervise students on projects, dissertations, and practical work.

  • Contribute to the development of the Mechanical Engineering curriculum.

  • Prepare teaching materials and laboratory manuals.

  • Conduct research and publish findings in reputable journals.

  • Participate in continuous professional development.

  • Engage in consultancy and/or knowledge transfer activities.

  • Undertake other duties assigned by the relevant University authorities.

Training Workshop Positions

Electrical Workshop Technician

  • Job Classification Level and Grade: 5.II

  • Supervised by/Reporting to: Director of Workshop

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering.

  • Two years of relevant working experience in repair and maintenance.

  • Experience with relevant specialized equipment and software/hardware is desirable.

  • Knowledge of relevant work practices, processes and procedures is an added advantage.

Mechanical Workshop Technician – Welding, Appropriate Technology and Machine Tools Technology

  • Job Classification Level and Grade: 5.II

  • Supervised by/Reporting to: Director of Workshop

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering.

  • Two years of relevant working experience in repair and maintenance.

  • Experience with relevant specialized equipment and software/hardware is desirable.

Workshop duties include technical support, maintenance of workshop equipment and facilities, minor repairs, preparation of tools and materials, supporting staff and students, maintaining records, monitoring workshop assets, and supporting practical courses and hands-on activities.


2. School of Science

The School of Science brings together four departments:

The School maintains close collaboration with the Centre of Biodiversity and Natural Resource Management, particularly through the Department of Biology.

Academic Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent professional Doctorate in Bioprocess Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, or a closely related discipline.

Specific requirements for Associate Professor

  • At least 3 years of teaching experience as a Senior Lecturer at a recognized institution of higher learning.

  • Minimum of four publication points earned since the last promotion, with at least two published in a journal indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, or AJOL.

  • Successful supervision to completion of at least one PhD student.

  • At least one successfully awarded research grant as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI, with combined amounts of at least 50 million RWF.

Specific requirements for Senior Lecturer

  • At least 3 years of teaching experience after PhD graduation.

  • Minimum of three publication points earned since the last promotion, with at least two of the publications meeting the requirements specified in the advertisement.

Duties include

  • Deliver teaching and learning and undertake related activities in Bioprocess Engineering and Biotechnology.

  • Assist in the development of new competency-based curricula.

  • Engage in research, consultancy and/or knowledge transfer.

  • Undertake teaching and related duties allocated by the Head of Department.

  • Participate in continuous professional development.

Assistant Lecturer – Physics

Number: 1

Requirements

  1. A Master's degree in Physics from a recognized institution. Preference may be given to candidates who are enrolled in doctoral studies.

  2. Demonstrated knowledge and competence in Physics.

  3. Potential for teaching and research in higher education.

  4. Evidence of research output, publications, or participation in research projects is an added advantage.

  5. Good understanding of laboratory-based teaching and experimental techniques.

  6. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise, academic training, or research experience in Nuclear Science and Technology, including Nuclear Physics, Radiation Physics, Medical Physics, Nuclear Energy Systems, Radiation Protection and Safety, Nuclear Instrumentation, or related fields.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the teaching of Physics.

  • Undertake other academic duties as allocated by the Head of Department.

  • Participate in continuous professional development.

  • Contribute to curriculum development.

  • Engage in research, consultancy and/or knowledge transfer.

  • Conduct research that advances the discipline and/or pedagogic or applied research.

  • Carry out other related duties allocated by the Head of Department, Dean of School, College Principal, DVC or VC.
