Midwifery Teacher (1)
Reports To: DIRECTOR OF STUDIES FOR A-LEVEL
1. Job Purpose
The Midwifery Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality theoretical and practical instruction in Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and other related midwifery components of the Associate Nursing Program (ANP). The teacher shall prepare competent nursing students with the knowledge, clinical skills, and professional attitudes required to provide safe, evidencebased maternal, newborn, child, and reproductive healthcare in accordance with the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) curriculum and the regulations of the National Council of Nurses and Midwives (NCNM).
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Teaching and Learning
Teach Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and other assigned nursing and midwifery courses in accordance with the approved ANP curriculum.
Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, teaching materials, and instructional resources.
Deliver learner-centred theoretical and practical lessons using competency-based teaching approaches.
Integrate simulation, demonstrations, case studies, and evidence-based teaching methodologies into classroom instruction.
Promote critical thinking, professional ethics, and compassionate patient care among students.
Maintain accurate records of lesson delivery, attendance, and student academic progress.
B. Student Assessment and Academic Support
Develop continuous assessments, assignments, practical evaluations, and examinations.
Assess and evaluate student performance in accordance with school policies and NESA assessment guidelines.
Provide timely academic feedback and mentorship to students.
Identify students requiring additional academic support and implement appropriate improvement strategies.
Participate in examination preparation, moderation, invigilation, and marking.
C. Clinical Education and Skills Development
Prepare students for maternal, newborn, child, and reproductive health clinical practice.
Conduct demonstrations and practical sessions in collaboration with the Skills Laboratory Teacher.
Participate in clinical teaching and supervision whenever assigned.
Promote safe maternity care, infection prevention and control, respectful maternity care, and patient safety principles.
Collaborate with Clinical Supervisors to monitor students' clinical learning and competency development.
D. Quality Assurance and Compliance
Ensure compliance with the Associate Nursing Program curriculum, NCNM regulations, and institutional academic policies.
Participate in curriculum review, departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and program evaluations.
Maintain confidentiality of examination materials and student academic records.
Promote professionalism, ethical practice, gender equity, and respect for patients' rights.
E. Professional Development
Participate in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities.
Maintain a valid NCNM practising license.
Keep up to date with advances in maternal, newborn, child health, and nursing education methodologies.
G. Other Duties
Participate in school meetings, committees, outreach activities, and extracurricular programs.
Support student discipline, guidance, counselling, and career development.
Participate in community health education and school health promotion activities where appropriate.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department – Associate Nursing Program or the School Management.
3. Minimum Qualifications Education
Applicants must possess:
A master’s degree in Midwifery, Maternal and Child Health, Neonatal Nursing, Paediatric Nursing with a strong background in bachelor’s degree (A0) in Midwifery from a recognized institution.
A valid practicing license issued by the National Council of Nurses and Midwives (NCNM).
4. Professional Experience Applicants should have:
A minimum of five (5) years of clinical practice in maternal, newborn, and reproductive health services.
Experience in teaching midwifery or nursing students is highly desirable.
Experience in competency-based education, simulation-based learning, or mentorship programs is an added advantage.
Experience working in maternity, labour and delivery, neonatal, or reproductive health services is preferred.
5. Required Skills and Competencies
The successful candidate should demonstrate:
Strong knowledge of maternal, newborn, child, and reproductive health.
Excellent teaching, facilitation, and classroom management skills.
Practical clinical competence in midwifery.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong planning, organisation, and time management abilities.
Ability to prepare instructional materials and competency-based assessments.
Good report writing, documentation, and record management skills.
Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
High standards of professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and ethical practice.

7. Employment Type

Initial contract period in accordance with Hope Haven Christian School Human Resource policies, subject to satisfactory completion of the probation period.
