Job Opportunity
UN Women Rwanda is seeking a qualified and experienced Communications Associate (NPSA 7) to support the development and implementation of communication, advocacy, media, and digital engagement strategies that promote gender equality and women's empowerment in Rwanda.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the National Programme Specialist and report directly to the Country Representative.
Key Responsibilities
Communications & Advocacy
Support the development and implementation of the Country Office communication strategy.
Organize media events, press conferences, campaigns, and advocacy initiatives.
Prepare communication materials, briefing notes, and press releases.
Monitor traditional and social media trends and provide strategic insights.
Integrate communication and advocacy approaches into programme activities.
Social Media & Digital Communications
Manage and update the Country Office website and social media platforms.
Create engaging content, stories, and multimedia materials.
Monitor web analytics and digital performance.
Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all platforms.
Media Relations
Maintain relationships with journalists and media organizations.
Coordinate media coverage of UN Women activities.
Respond to media inquiries and arrange interviews.
Draft talking points and communication briefs.
Content Creation & Knowledge Management
Write and edit press releases, blogs, opinion articles, and success stories.
Document activities through photos, videos, and testimonials.
Identify and share best practices and lessons learned.
Facilitate communication trainings and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Education
Completion of Secondary Education is required.
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field is an added advantage.
Experience
Applicants must have:
At least 7 years of relevant professional experience in communications, advocacy, media relations, or public information.
Experience managing social media and digital communication platforms.
Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications and database management systems.
Experience with web-based management systems.
Experience using Oracle Cloud ERP systems is an advantage.
Languages
Fluency in English is required.
Fluency in Kinyarwanda is required.
Knowledge of another UN language (French, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, or Russian) is an added advantage.
Desired Skills
Excellent communication and writing skills.
Strong multimedia and content creation abilities.
Event planning and coordination skills.
Social media strategy and digital marketing knowledge.
Ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
Understanding of gender equality and women's empowerment issues.
