Chief Financial Officer at Green Hills Academy: (Deadline 29 March 2026)
Position Overview
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Green Hills Academy provides strategic leadership and oversight of the schoolโs financial operations to ensure long-term sustainability and responsible stewardship of resources. The CFO reports to the Head of School.
As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the CFO partners with the Head of School, the Senior Leadership Team, and the Finance Committee to develop financial strategies that support the schoolโs mission to deliver high-quality international education. The CFO ensures strong financial management, transparent reporting, effective budgeting, and compliance with all relevant regulations in Rwanda.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership
- Develop and implement the schoolโs long-term financial strategy aligned with the strategic plan.
- Provide financial advice and analysis to the Head of School.
- Lead financial planning to support enrollment growth and program expansion.
- Identify financial risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Lead the development of the annual operating and capital budgets.
- Work closely with academic and administrative departments to align budgets with school priorities.
- Monitor financial performance against the budget and recommend adjustments as needed.
- Prepare long-term financial forecasts and scenario analyses.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain strong financial controls and adherence to international accounting standards.
- Oversee accounting functions, including:
- Accounts payable and receivable
- Payroll administration
- Cash management
- Financial reconciliations
- Present financial reports to the Head of School and Finance Committee
- Ensure compliance with Rwandan tax, regulatory, and financial reporting requirements.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, and financial advisors.
- Coordinate the schoolโs annual financial audit and ensure implementation of audit recommendations.
- Maintain and strengthen internal control systems in collaboration with the internal auditor.
- Collaborate with the Procurement Director to ensure procurement of goods and services is within budget.
- Ensure effective management of tuition billing and collections.
- Periodically review and recommend updates to financial policies and procedures.
- Monitor financial risks and ensure proper asset protection.
- Support the Finance Committee in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities.
- Lead and manage the Finance Department.
- Ensure a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Provide mentoring and professional development opportunities for finance staff.
- Foster strong collaboration between the Finance Department and other school departments.
- Bachelorโs degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration
- Professional accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA, CA, or equivalent)
- Minimum 8โ10 years of progressive financial management experience
- At least 3โ5 years in a senior leadership role
- Strong knowledge of financial controls, budgeting, and reporting systems
- Experience working in international schools, NGOs, or educational institutions
- Experience working in international or multicultural environments
- Masterโs degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration (MBA)
- Familiarity with tuition-based financial models and school operations
