The Brooke Owens Fellowship Program (BOFP) is inviting applications for its 2027 Fellowship Class, offering undergraduate women and gender-minority students interested in aerospace and aviation careers an opportunity to gain mentorship, professional development, industry exposure, and access to a lifelong network of aerospace professionals.

The fellowship welcomes students from diverse academic backgrounds, including engineering, science, business, communications, policy, arts, and other fields.

About the Brooke Owens Fellowship

The Brooke Owens Fellowship was established to honor the legacy of Dawn Brooke Owens, a pilot, space policy expert, and aerospace industry pioneer.

The program aims to expand opportunities for talented women and gender minorities who have historically been underrepresented in the aerospace sector.

Since its establishment, the fellowship has developed a growing community of Fellows, mentors, and aerospace professionals. According to the program, 418 undergraduate students have been accepted across its first ten classes, representing nearly 40 U.S. states and territories and 10 countries.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for the Brooke Owens Fellowship 2027 should generally:

  • Be an undergraduate student who has completed at least one year of college coursework toward a bachelor’s or associate degree.

  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Identify as a woman or gender minority.

  • Be interested in pursuing a career in aerospace.

  • Be enrolled at a college or university at the time of application.

Applicants do not need to major in aerospace engineering. Students from a wide range of academic disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Students of all nationalities may apply, although certain aerospace opportunities may have citizenship restrictions.

Application Requirements

Applicants should prepare the following:

  • Current resume

  • Academic transcript

  • One recommendation letter

  • Personal statement of up to 600 words

  • Mission alignment statement of up to 300 words

  • Multimedia essay

The multimedia essay provides applicants with an opportunity to demonstrate their creativity through formats such as:

  • Video

  • Poem

  • Song

  • Graphic design

  • Animation

  • Podcast

  • Other digital formats

The multimedia submission must be reviewable within five minutes and comply with the program's file-size requirements.
