Key Responsibilities
The successful intern may be involved in:
Planning and leading engineering changes and deviations for assembly processes.
Developing, evaluating, and improving assembly processes and production methods.
Creating and maintaining assembly process documentation.
Analyzing workspace requirements, production workflows, and equipment layouts.
Supporting the selection and implementation of production equipment, materials, tools, and fixtures.
Evaluating products according to technical specifications and quality standards.
Supporting production planning, staffing analysis, and cost estimates.
Working with engineering, management, procurement, finance, and other teams to improve production processes.
Applying statistical methods to analyze processes and anticipate future production requirements.
Supporting continuous improvement, structural planning, and new-model production projects.
Providing technical guidance and supporting process-improvement activities.
Applying BMW's Value Added Production System (VPS), Standard Work, Problem Solving, 5S, and safety principles.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants are expected to meet the following requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent related engineering experience.
At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment or previous automotive process/manufacturing engineering internship experience.
At least 1 year of experience with vehicle-system assembly and functionality, including electrical, mechanical, modular, or diagnostic systems.
Experience in problem investigation and data analysis.
Experience with short- and long-term project management, continuous improvement, process analysis, or new-model planning.
Cross-functional communication experience.
Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
Knowledge of assembly department goals and objectives.
Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Ability to apply statistical methods such as FMEA, SPC, risk analysis, and process/machine capability analysis.
Knowledge of quality-planning tools.
Basic knowledge of relevant BMW applications and systems is an advantage.
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on the U.S. grading scale.
Must be enrolled at a university outside the United States.
Must have completed a previous BMW internship lasting at least 3 months.
Must be able to work full-time on-site, 40 hours per week.
Must successfully complete the required substance-abuse test before the internship begins.
Are Rwandans Eligible?
Yes. Rwandan applicants can apply if they meet all the requirements. However, this is a highly specialized opportunity, and applicants must meet the specific requirements, including having completed a previous BMW internship of at least three months and being enrolled at a university outside the United States.
