Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants will receive:
- Up to 3 full scholarships worth €38,500
- Living allowance of €18,000 per year
- Semester public transport ticket valid in Berlin and across Germany during the study period
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Apply for the Master of International Affairs (MIA) programme.
- Be citizens of Sweden.
- Demonstrate a strong interest in:
- International security
- Security policy
- German–Swedish relations
- Intend to pursue a career in international security.
Required Documents
In addition to the standard Master's application, applicants must submit:
- A one-page personal statement explaining:
- Their interest in security policy.
- How studying at Hertie School will help them achieve their career goals in international security.
Selection Process
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview with a Hertie School faculty member.

- Submit an application for admission to the Master of International Affairs (MIA) programme before the relevant admission deadline.
- After receiving an admission offer, applicants will be invited to access the Funding Application.
- Complete and submit the scholarship application within two weeks of receiving the invitation.
