Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships 2027–2028: (Deadline Ongoing)

Applications for the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships 2027–2028 will open on 20 August 2026.

Each year, the Swiss Government awards these scholarships to promote international exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and over 180 countries worldwide. The scholarships are administered by the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS/ESKAS).

Types of Scholarships

Research Scholarships (Master’s, PhD, Postdoctoral research)
Art Scholarships (Music, Visual Arts, Performing Arts)

Benefits

Selected candidates receive:

CHF 2,450 monthly stipend for living expenses
Health insurance coverage for non-EU/EFTA students
CHF 600 one-time housing deposit grant
Half-Fare public transport card
Return flight allowance for non-EU/EFTA countries
Access to academic excursions and networking activities

Note: Tuition fees, conferences, and field research costs are not fully covered.

Eligibility Requirements

Research Scholarships
Master’s degree completed by July 2027
Strong research proposal with timeline
Academic supervisor in Switzerland (mandatory)
CV and motivation letter

Art Scholarships
Bachelor’s degree completed by July 2027
Admission or application to a Swiss arts institution
Portfolio (music, visual arts, or performance)
Proof of artistic work and achievements

Motivation letter (maximum 2 pages)
Research proposal (maximum 5 pages for research applicants)
Academic certificates and transcripts
Passport copy
Two academic referees (professors)
Letter of support from Swiss supervisor

Important Notice

Applicants must secure an academic supervisor in Switzerland before submitting the application. Applications without supervision will not be considered.

Scholarship begins on 1 September 2027
