Postgraduate at Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) 2026/2027: (Deadline 3 April 2026)
Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) is an initiative by the Malaysian Government to attract top talents from around the world to pursue postgraduate studies in Malaysia. This scholarship is parallel with Malaysia’s aspiration to emerge as one of the global centres of academic excellence by attracting, motivating and retaining talented human capital from abroad. Interested international graduates with outstanding academic and co-curricular backgrounds are welcome to apply for this scholarship to further their studies in leading Malaysian universities and higher education institutions with the opportunity to enjoy Malaysian hospitality and a world-class higher education experience.

Aim and Benefits of Malaysia Postgraduate Scholarship
- Tuition fees for the entire sponsorship period will be paid directly to the university upon the issuance of invoice to MOHE by the university.
- Monthly living allowance of RM 1,500.00 per month will be paid to the scholars every four (4) months upon the submission of scholars’ progress report to MOHE.
Requirements for Malaysia Postgraduate Scholarship Qualification
Graduates from the recipient countries of MIS 2026 who:
- are citizens from the recipient countries* of MIS 2026;
- intend to pursue full-time postgraduate studies (Master’s/PhD) in Malaysia; or
- are currently pursuing full-time postgraduate studies in Malaysian public universities and selected private higher education institutions** with a minimum of two (2) semesters remaining before the end of the study period.
Applicants must fulfil the following criteria for their applications to be considered further:
- Is not more than 40 years old at the time of application for Master’s degree.
- Is not more than 45 years old at the time of application for PhD level.
- Possess good academic qualifications:
- Master’s applicants: obtained a CGPA of 3.00 / 2 nd Class Upper (Honours) or higher at the bachelor’s degree level;
- PhD applicants: obtained a CGPA of 3.00 / excellent results at the Master’s level in courses related to the intended PhD study program
- Good proficiency of English Language:
- IELTS band 6.0 or higher; or
- Total score of 550 or higher in TOEFL paperbased test (PBT) or equivalent score in other TOEFL tests; or
- Has obtained previous degree(s) with English used as the medium of instructions (must submit an official declaration by the university).
- Submit a written research proposal* with a minimum of 1,000 words that is relevant to the intended field of studies
*for Master’s by Research and PhD applicants only.
Applicants are welcome to apply for any accredited courses with priorities given to courses under the following areas of study:
- Administration and Law
- Arts and Humanities
- Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Veterinary
- Business
- Education
- Engineering, Manufacturing and Construction
- Health and Welfare *not including medicine, nursing and pharmacy
- Information and Communication Technologies
- Mathematics and Statistics
- Natural Sciences
- Social Sciences, Journalism and Information
Interview date, Process and Venue for Malaysia Postgraduate Scholarship
Applications will be considered according to the following selection criteria:
- Outstanding academic and co-curricular achievement.
- The quality of the research proposal and its potential contribution towards advancement of technology and human well-being, with a preference for Malaysia-related research topics.
- Excellent communication, writing and reading skills in English language.
Documents Required for Application
Applicants will have to fill up and provide all the necessary information in the Application Form and have the compulsory documents listed below scanned and saved in PDF format and uploaded:
- A certified copy of the passport as evidence of nationality (with a minimum validity of 6 months);
- A certified copy of the academic transcript(s):
- Transcripts of undergraduate studies (together with the master’s degree transcript for PhD applicants);
- Reflect the record of all the courses taken throughout the previous study programme(s); and
- Must be submitted together with a certified official document issued by the applicant’s alma mater describing the institution’s grade system if the applicant’s transcript does not include information on CGPA, marks or score percentile.
- A certified copy of English Proficiency test result (IELTS / TOEFL) or an official letter from the previous institution declaring English as the medium of instruction used for the obtained degree(s);
- Letter of Recommendation from two (2) referees;
- Admission letter to Malaysian university (if applicants are currently undertaking postgraduate studies or if applicants have secured admission to the university); vi. Curriculum Vitae; and
- Research Proposal *for Masters by Research and PhD applicants only
**all documents are required to be in English, if they are in any language other than English, you are required to provide certified translated copies of the documents.
